Svensson

Time to Play

Svensson 49 is a digital keyboard with expressive sounds, a playful looper, and a powerful speaker.

No menus to dive through. No manual to read before you start. Just play, loop, and explore your musical ideas.

See how everything works in the walkthrough video below.

Sounds by Cuckoo

Svensson uses a mix of samples and wavetables to generate sounds that range from acoustic to synthetic, with a special focus on everything in between.

The sounds are designed by Cuckoo. We love how much care he puts into making his sounds feel colorful and expressive, and how naturally he blends synths with pianos and other acoustic instruments.

Loop and Layer

Svensson keeps track of the notes you play, so you don’t have to hit record before you start. If you like what you just played, hit Loop to capture it.

The four sound categories are also separate parts that can be looped individually. Loops can be as long as you want, and you can add as many layers as you want. Cuckoo demonstrates this in his walkthrough video.

Build Quality

Svensson has a metal body with solid oak sides and is manufactured in Germany. It uses a Fatar keyboard with 49 semi-weighted, velocity-sensitive keys.

The built-in speaker is custom-made by Swedish speaker guru Ingvar Öhman. It's surprisingly loud and lets you play so other people can hear without additional gear. Perfect for living room jams.

FAQ

Can I export loops?

Yes. Connect Svensson to a computer to download saved loops as separate audio and MIDI files.

Are loops saved when Svensson is turned off?

Yes. Svensson saves your work and boots back into the same state when you turn it on again. It has enough memory for thousands of loops.

Show all questions >

How many sounds are included?

Svensson ships with around 100 presets, all carefully crafted by Cuckoo.

Will more sounds be added over time?

Yes. We plan to expand the sound library over time and would love to work with more sound designers.

Can I edit or make my own sounds?

Not at launch. Svensson is designed around carefully crafted presets, but sound editing is something we may explore in the future.

How many voices can it play?

A lot in normal use.

The exact number depends on which sounds are loaded, since some sounds are more demanding than others. Voices are assigned dynamically between the different parts. In the worst case, you will still have at least 10 voices available per part, and usually a lot more.

Can I play layered or split sounds?

No.

Does it have octave switches?

No.

Does it send MIDI?

Yes. Svensson can send MIDI in a few ways:

  • Connect it to a computer via USB-C and use it as a controller keyboard.
  • Connect a class-compliant MIDI interface via USB and use Svensson as a host.
  • Connect it to another device with USB and send MIDI over USB.

MIDI is sent on separate channels for the different parts. We’re also evaluating the best options for sending and receiving sync.

What about separate MIDI ports?

Svensson is not primarily designed as a MIDI controller, but we understand that dedicated MIDI ports would make it more flexible. We’re gathering feedback and will consider this for a future hardware update.

Does it have a battery?

No. Svensson is designed as an instrument for the home, studio, or wherever you have power nearby. It's not meant to be portable in the sense that you carry it around for a bus ride.

Therefore, we chose to not add another built-in battery. Batteries add cost, complicate shipping, age faster than the rest of the instrument, and are not great for the environment.

That said, you can power Svensson for many hours with a USB-C power bank.

How big is it?

Approximately 73 cm wide, 27 cm deep, and 8 cm high. It weighs 7.3 kg.
